No information is available regarding the coverage of private medical insurance in Scotland in 1979. Currently around 6 per cent, of the population are covered by private medical insurance. Figures for the United Kingdom as a whole which do not differentiate between regions show that 5 per cent, of the population were covered by private medical insurance in 1979 while 13 per cent, were covered in 1989.
