HC Deb 01 November 1990 vol 178 c695W
Mr. Marlow

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether any commitment has been given by the United Kingdom to Israel should Iraqi forces seek to wrest the occupied territories from Israeli control.

Mr. Waldegrave

No. Such a commitment has been neither sought nor given.

Mr. Marlow

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, pursuant to his answer of 29 October, on the Palestinian homeland, what is Her Majesty's Government's policy with regard to the exercise by Israel of a veto over the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Mr. Waldegrave

The Palestinian right to self-determination is not negotiable. What is for negotiation between the parties to the conflict is the shape of a comprehensive settlement of the Arab-Israel dispute.
