HC Deb 01 November 1990 vol 178 c659W
Mr. Murphy

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many new houses were started by Welsh local authorities in the most recent year for which figures are available.

Mr. Grist

In 1989, a total of 501 new dealings were started by local authorities.

Mr. Murphy

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what resources he intends to allocate to Welsh district councils for new house building.

Mr. Grist

It is too early to say what resources will be available next year. However, it is a matter for each local authority to determine its own housing priorities within the resources available to it taking account of local needs and securing value for money.
