HC Deb 01 November 1990 vol 178 c700W
Mr. Cummings

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the record on human rights in the Gulf states.

Mr. Waldegrave

We deplore all human rights violations, wherever they may occur, and the Governments of the Gulf states are well aware of the importance we attach to the observance of international human rights standards.

Mr. Cummings

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has received from human rights organisations concerning abuses of human rights in the Gulf states; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

A number of human rights organisations have made clear their concern. We have made our own views on Iraq's current human rights abuses in Kuwait entirely clear in UN Security Council resolutions including resolutions 664 and 674.
