HC Deb 24 May 1990 vol 173 cc315-6W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what was the price received for the 27 skill centre sites sold to Astra Training Services Ltd.; what conditions are imposed on the sale; and how he applied the provisions of appendix IV, principal lease terms, of the information memorandum issued by Deloitte Corporate Finance on his behalf.

Mr. Eggar

[holding answer 15 May 1990]: The sale of the skill centre sites to Astra Training Services Ltd. formed part of the overall sale package, which will involve a payment from the Government to Astra of some £11 million. My right hon. and learned Friend gave details to the House on 13 February 1990 at column 144 of the conditions that would apply to the sale in respect of any development gains made by Astra.

My sale advisers took full account of the principal lease terms set out in appendix IV of the information memorandum in their negotiations with successful bidders.

Mr. McLeish

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement about the sale of the Liverpool skill centre to METEL; and what information he has on the decision to make redundant all the staff transferred from the Skills Training Agency.

Mr. Eggar

[holding answer 22 May 1990]: The sale of the training business at Liverpool skill centre to Merseyside Education Training Enterprise Limited (METEL) was negotiated in good faith and completed on 14 May. I regret the decision of METEL to make staff from the skill centre redundant. My Department has given support to its former employees by offering them access to legal advice on the severance terms being offered by METEL.
