HC Deb 24 May 1990 vol 173 cc300-1W
Mr. Robert Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he approved the 10-year strategy of Grampian health board; what are the estimated annual costs of this strategy; and what financial allocations have been made or are to be made for each of the years covered by the 10-year strategy.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

Grampian health board's 10-year strategy will be the subject of discussions between NHS management executive and the board at an autumn meeting to review progress on delivering the priorities set out in the SHAPE and SHARPEN reports. The board's strategic plans are expected to consider a range of assumptions about the level of financial resources that might be allocated to it in the future.

Mr. Robert Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the projected population for the year 1990–91 within the area served by Grampian health board; what is the weighted population used by the Scottish Home and Health Department for grant allocation purposes; and what difference in grant allocation results from these population figures.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The estimated resident population served by Grampian health board in 1990–91 is 505,156. In common with other boards in order to reflect the relative health needs of the area the crude population figure is adjusted to take account of the age, sex and estimated morbidity of the population. The 1990–91 adjusted figure for the Grampian health board is 471,000. Grampian health board's allocation was increased by £13.762 million in the current year.

Mr. Robert Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the estimated cost to Grampian health board of pay and price inflation for the financial year 1990–91; and what sum of money has been allocated by SHHD to meet these costs.

Mr. Michael Forsyth:

The allocation to Grampian health board in 1990–91 for recurrent expenditure on hospital and community health services was £187.725 million.

The figure was based on the relative health needs of the board's resident population.

Mr. Robert Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what financial allocation was made to Grampian health board for general purposes and medical equipment for the financial years 1989–90 and 1990–91.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

It is for boards to determine their spending priorities on medical equipment and other matters within their available resources.
