HC Deb 24 May 1990 vol 173 cc302-3W
Mr. Bill Walker

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he proposes to make changes to the cash limits for 1990–91 within his responsibility.

Mr. Rifkind

Yes. Subject to parliamentary approval of the necessary supplementary estimate, the cash limit for class XV, vote 27: hospital and community health services, family practitioner services (part) and other health services, Scotland, will be increased by £24,274,000 from £2,031,840,000 to £2,056,114,000. This is to provide funds towards the costs of the pay awards to medical staff recommended in the reports of the review bodies for nursing staff, midwives, health visitors and professions allied to medicine and on doctors' and dentists' remuneration and to allow for increased receipts and increased capital expenditure by health boards.

The increase will be charged to the reserve and will not therefore add to the planned total of public expenditure.
