Mr. Steinberg

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many patients are awaiting kidney transplant operations; and what measures are being taken to encourage more people to carry donor cards.

According to information provided by the United Kingdom transplant service, the number of United Kingdom patients waiting for a cadaveric kidney transplant on 11 May 1990 was 3,543.
