HC Deb 21 May 1990 vol 173 c43W
Mr. Vaz

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many representations he has received concerning national provision for lip-reading classes; if he will list, by region, the authorities in England that provide lip-reading classes; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alan Howarth

My right hon. Friend has not received any representations concerning national provision for lip-reading classes. It is for local education authorities to assess the local demand for lip-reading classes. The Government do not collect information centrally on the availability of classes in lip-reading.
