§ Mr. Andrew SmithTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what monitoring his Department is conducting of appointments of(a) independent governors, (b) local authority nominees, (c) academic nominees and (d) others to higher education corporations.
Mr. JacksonNone. While initial appointments of higher education corporation governors were made by my right hon. Friend the then Secretary of State, all subsequent appointments are entirely a matter for the corporations themselves, or their independent members, within the comprehensive and carefully constructed provisions of schedule 7 to the Education Reform Act 1988.
