HC Deb 21 May 1990 vol 173 c42W
Mr. David Young

To ask the Secretary of State for Health which district authorities in the financial year 1989–90 in the north-west had to cut services in order to remain within budget.

Mr. Dorrell

In 1989–90, additional cash resources were made available to the North Western regional health authority amounting to about £88 million, which represented an increase of about 8.4 per cent. over the previous year. Taken together with about £19 million efficiency savings, this increase enabled service developments of £19.2 million to go ahead and meant that no district health authority needed to cut services to maintain a balanced budget.
