§ Mr. RyderOn the basis of Customs and Excise data on registrations and deregistrations processed, the net increase in the number of businesses registered for value added tax in 1989 was 84,374. This reflected 261,783 new registrations and 177,409 deregistrations. The net increase was more than three-and-a-half times higher than in 1980.
