HC Deb 16 May 1990 vol 172 cc417-8W
Mr. Evennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) whether any extended paramedic training scheme for ambulance crews in England provides a qualification validated by the National Council for Vocational Qualifications; and if he will make a statement;

(2) whether he has any plans to introduce a standard paramedic training syllabus for ambulance crews in England; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dorrell

There is already an extended (paramedic) training programme provided by the National Health Service training authority which has been endorsed by the NHS for use by the ambulance service.

The NHSTA is in the process of converting the training syllabus into degrees of competence in accordance with NCVQ requirements in consultation with representatives of the various employment sectors and interested bodies.
