However, the international passenger survey results for 1984 showed that there were an estimated 477,000 visits to the United Kingdom by foreign residents who attended an English language course. It is not known what proportion of these studied at language schools. Respondents holding passports from the main English-speaking countries were not asked about their attendance on English language courses.
