§ Dr. David ClarkTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many pigs which have eaten contaminated feed have as a result(a) been slaughtered or (b) died of natural causes, over the most recent period for which figures are available.
§ Mr. GummerPrecise figures are not available but we understand that up to 1,200 pigs which have consumed the contaminated feed since 1 January have been or are expected to be slaughtered for welfare reasons. This updates the figure given in my reply of 9 May. There have been no cases which I can confirm of pigs having died as a direct result of eating the contaminated feed.
