HL Deb 14 May 1990 vol 519 c148WA
Lord Allen of Abbeydale

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Law Commission was invited to undertake a review of the court procedures necessary to handle multi-claimant personal injury actions, as foreshadowed in the debates on the Legal Aid Bill in 1988, and, if so, when a report is likely to be published.

The Lord Chancellor

Following the recommendation of the Civil Justice Review that one of the law reform agencies should be invited to carry out a study into representative or class actions, the possibility of such a study being undertaken by the Law Commission is under discussion. Meanwhile, the Legal Aid Board is considering how the legal aid aspects of multi-party actions may be improved.
