§ Mr. Alan HowarthThere are currently 12 proposals published under section 13 of the Education Act 1980 for establishing a voluntary aided school which fall to be decided by my right hon. Friend. In addition there are two 139W proposals before him under section 54 of the Education (No. 2) Act 1986 to change the status of a voluntary controlled school to voluntary aided. He will reach a decision on the proposals as quickly as is compatible with a full and careful consideration of all the issues involved. He has stated that it is his intention to come to a decision on statutory proposals within five months of publication wherever possible. Delays in some cases arise from factors outside the Department's control.
