HC Deb 08 May 1990 vol 172 c40W
52. Mr. Sims

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he has any plans to take steps to change the law in the light of the Greenwich decision for school allocation procedures; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Rumbold

My right hon. Friend is not at present contemplating a change in the law in the light of the recent judicial decisions in the case R.v London Borough of Greenwich, ex parte the Governors of John Ball primary school. The law has been stated, and local education authorities and governors will in future have to take account of it in their school admission policies. The Department will, however, continue to keep the situation under review.
