HC Deb 08 May 1990 vol 172 cc101-2W
Mr. Patchett

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the outstanding debt repayments of Barnsley metropolitan borough council in respect of council houses sold under the right-to-buy legislation; and if he will consider freeing the local authority from such debts on its former assets.

Mr. Chope

Authorities generally manage their housing debt on a collective basis, so it is not possible to attribute a specific amount of debt to former council houses sold under the right-to-buy legislation. However, any outstanding debt in Barnsley's housing revenue account will be taken into account in the calculation of the authority's entitlement to housing revenue account subsidy.
