HC Deb 08 May 1990 vol 172 c59W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make it his policy to introduce legislation along the lines of the United States Export Administration Regulations, part 778, concerning the special control of nuclear technology.

Mr. Redwood

The Government have no plans to introduce new legislation to control the export of nuclear-related goods and technology. The United Kingdom's obligations under the nuclear nonproliferation treaty are given effect through the Export of Goods (Control) Order 1989 (SI 1989 No. 2376), as amended, under which a licence is required to export sensitive nuclear-related goods and technology. It is not our practice to license exports which give rise to proliferation or other concerns.
