HC Deb 08 May 1990 vol 172 c36W
27. Mr. Hind

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the morale of teachers in public sector schools.

Mr. Speller

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps he will take to improve teachers' morale.

Mr. Knapman

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement about the morale of teachers and pupils in(a) grant-maintained schools and (b) local authority schools.

Mrs. Rumbold

The interim advisory committee on school teachers' pay and conditions foresees substantial gains in the self-confidence of teachers as the Government's education reforms are successfully introduced. The recommendations of the committee should significantly increase the attractiveness of teaching as a profession. My right hon. Friend announced on 5 April that he had decided to accept all the committee's recommendations, subject to some minor modifications. They will be implemented in full by 1 January 1991.
