HC Deb 08 May 1990 vol 172 c101W
Mr. Steinberg

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what discussions he proposes to hold on how the extra income from the football pools will be allocated on a divisional basis.

Mr. Moynihan

My officials have had discussions with the Football Trust 1990 and the Pool Promoters Association about the arrangements for the distribution of the extra money that will be available to football as a result of the proposed reduction in pool betting duty announced in the Budget statement. It is the intention that the Football Trust 1990 should distribute the money fairly, having regard to the differing needs and resources available to the clubs in the Football League and Scottish League and to the three national stadia, Wembley, Hampden park and Windsor park. The Football Trust has proved a most effective means of channelling funds to where they are most needed in football.
