HC Deb 08 May 1990 vol 172 c49W
Ms. Short

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what was the total amount spent for each standard region and for Great Britain as a whole, in both cash and real terms, by his Department, the employment service and the Training Agency, formerly Manpower Services Commission, in each year since 1979–80; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

The information requested is not available for standard economic planning regions.

The total amount spent in cash terms by the Department of Employment is available from the appropriation accounts for the relevant year. (Volume 2, class IV for 1979–80, volume 4, class IV for each of the years 1980–81 to 1985–86 and volume 5, class VII for 1986–87 to 1988–89).

Real-terms expenditure can be derived by applying the GDP deflator to the cash total for the year in question.
