§ 28. Mr. BeithTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress he has made in setting up arrangements between his Department and highway authorities to discuss the future of the A1 beyond the proposals in the roads south of Edinburgh study.
§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonRepresentatives from the roads departments of Lothian and Borders regional councils, and of Northumberland county council, will be invited to join with officials from my Department and the Department of Transport to form the A1 steering group described in our "Routes South of Edinburgh: Report on Public Consultation and the Government's Decisions", copies of which are in the Library. Detailed terms of reference for the group are currently being drafted by my Department in liaison with the Department of Transport.
