HL Deb 01 May 1990 vol 518 cc1031-2WA
Lord Dormand of Easington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many city technology colleges have been established and how many others are planned; and how much of the cost has been met from public funds and how much by industry and commerce.

Baroness Blatch

Three city technology colleges are up and running and a further nine are due to open in 1990 and 1991. Up to the end of the 1989-90 financial year, the Department of Education and Science had spent £46-6m on the CTC programme, covering project start-up costs, capital and recurrent funding. Up to this date, sponsors had made payments totalling £4-05m. Sponsors' contributions relate only to capital costs and are frequently phased on a covenanted basis.
