HC Deb 29 March 1990 vol 170 cc305-6W
27. Mr. Allen McKay

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what subjects of cross-border co-operation were discussed at the last meeting of the Anglo-Irish ministerial council.

Mr. Brooke

Discussions at the last meeting of the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference on 2 March included cross-border co-operation on security and social and economic matters.

34. Mr. Corbett

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what issues of non-security related cross-border co-operation will be discussed at the next meeting of the Anglo-Irish ministerial conference.

Mr. Brooke

Among the items for discussion at the next Conference will be cross-border economic and social co-operation and the implications of 1992.

38. Mr. Cyril D. Townsend

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on cross-border security co-operation between the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic.

Mr. Brooke

Enhancing cross-border co-operation on security matters remains a fundamental objective of the Government in their discussions with the Irish Government. Progress has been made since the signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement, but there remains considerable scope for further improvement. We shall continue to explore, through the Conference, ways in which this can be achieved.
