§ Mrs. Virginia BottomleyThe GP target payments system will reduce the number of unnecessary deaths from cancer of the cervix and help to eliminate childhood diseases. It is therefore clearly in the patients' best interests. The Government have already given an undertaking to monitor all aspects of the GPs' new contract and to consider further improvements should this prove necessary.
