§ Mr. EggarMy Department financed a study of workfare which was initiated and commissioned by the employment research centre of the university of Buckingham. A report of the study was published in 1987 under the title "Would Workfare Work?". Since the study was undertaken, the Government have introduced a number of measures; most recently in the Social Security Act 1989, to require unemployed people to seek work actively as a condition of receiving unemployment benefits.
