HC Deb 27 March 1990 vol 170 c182W
Mr. Andrew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the number of people aged 18 to 24 years currently undertaking non-advanced further education full-time and higher education full-time; and what percentage of the total population of 18 to 24-year-olds this represents.

Mr. Jackson

In Great Britain universities, polytechnics and colleges during the academic year 1988–89 there were 110,000 and 392,000 students aged 18 to 24 years on non-advanced further education courses and higher education courses respectively, representing together about 8 per cent. of the population of 18 to 24-year-olds in Great Britain.
