§ 76. Ms. QuinTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has any new proposals on prison conditions in the light of Mr. Stewart Fisher's report on Lewes gaol.
§ Mr. MellorWe have already announced an increase of £80 million in the prison refurbishment programme for 1990–91, bringing the total available in that year to £120 million. The additional funding will allow for essential754W health, safety and security measures to be carried out, particularly in kitchens. In all, £400 million will be provided over the next three years to improve prison conditions.
At Her Majesty's prison Lewes, capital expenditure of £2.6 million is already planned for the provision of a new kitchen and reception area, and an extension to the hospital.
