HC Deb 22 March 1990 vol 169 c728W
1989. Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the total publicity and advertising expenditure of his Department and its predecessor and public bodies for which his Department and its predecessor has responsibility in(a) 1979 and (b)

Mr. Freeman

Estimated expenditure on publicity and advertising for the financial years 1978–79 and 1988–89 was:

£ million
1978–79 13.5
1988–89 44.6

These figures include expenditure by the Department of Health, health authorities in England, the Health Education Council (in 1978–79) and the Health Education Authority (in 1988–89). Information on publicity and advertising expenditure by other special health authorities and public bodies is not available centrally, but is not thought to be significant.
