HC Deb 21 March 1990 vol 169 cc649-50W
Mr. Robert Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will set out the additional amounts in grants to the North Yorkshire county council which will be available in future years as a result of the increased spending announcement.

Mr. Atkins

In the 1990–91 transport supplementary grant (TSG) settlement, announced last December, we accepted for the first time expenditure on the Sherburn-inElmet and South Milford bypass for 50 per cent. Grant support. Subject to North Yorkshire county council making satisfactory progress, we expect to pay TSG of over £5.7 million towards the cost of this scheme between now and its completion in 1992–93. During this same period, support for the Harrogate Knaresborough southern bypass is expected to continue with TSG of some £5.2 million. The county council will also receive increases in revenue support grant over a longer period to cover the cost of funding the balance.
