HC Deb 21 March 1990 vol 169 cc620-1W
Mr. Speller

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what facilities are available for in vitro fertilisation under the National Health Service for residents in south-west England; and what plans he has to provide such a service.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

I understand that in vitro fertilisation (IVF) services in the south-western region are available to residents of Southmead district health authority, and exceptionally to residents of other districts. Decisions about the priority and resources to be given to infertility services as a whole, and the place of an IVF programme within them, are matters for district health authorities.
