§ Mr. Charles KennedyTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects to be able to reply to the specific questions raised with him by the Federation of Highlands and Islands fishermen in its original letter of 3 May 1989 with regard to the impact of klondyking activity upon the fishing activities of Ullapool fishermen and the question of possible compensation; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Lang[holding answer 14 March 1990]: The question of compensation for loss of fishing opportunities has been raised by the federation, and by the hon. Member on its behalf, on previous occasions. My noble Friend the Minister of State told representatives of the federation at a meeting in Kinlochbervie in August 1989 that the Government do not intend to pay compensation.
