Mr. William Ross

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish a table in theOfficial Report to show the number of United Kingdom civil servants employed at present and in 1985 in each council area in Northern Ireland.

[holding answer 20 March 1990]: At I April 1989 there were 5,185 civil servants in Northern Ireland. This compares with 5,168 at 1 April 1985. These numbers exclude staff in the Northern Ireland civil service. The table shows the distribution of non-industrial civil servants in the following areas. No information is available about the location of industrial civil servants.
