§ Mr. BeithTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the tax relief granted on capital allowances granted in the financial year 1987–88 on(a) plant and machinery, excluding private use motor vehicles, and (b) in respect of investment incurred in the first year for which capital allowances were due.
§ Mr. LilleyThe direct revenue cost of capital allowances for plant and machinery, including vehicles, claimed in accounting periods ending in 1987–88 is provisionally estimated at £6.6 billion. No separate estimates are available for private use motor vehicles, or for new investment in the year.
