HC Deb 19 March 1990 vol 169 cc457-8W
Mr. Beaumont-Dark

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report on the progress of the inquiry into the West Midlands serious crime squad; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

I refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Members for Mansfield (Mr. Meale) and for Dumbarton (Mr. McFall) on 25 January at column873. I understand that the investigation team, led by Mr. Shaw, assistant chief constable of the West Yorkshire police, is continuing to examine the files relating to all the arrests made by the squad since 1986, and is also investigating individual complaints made against officers of the squad. It will be some time before all cases have been examined.
