The total figures cover Her Majesty's forces, the National Health Service, the civil service—except trading funds—and other organisations classified to central Government. The component figures, in aggregate, and definitions are contained in an article on employment in the public and private sectors published in the December 1989 edition of "Economic Trends". The full-time/part-time split for 1989 shown below is a later estimate. Figures for the civil service are also shown separately.
