§ Mr. HardyTo ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will publish an explanation in plain terms designed to be comprehensible to ordinary consumers of the formulae contained in the Fossil Fuel Levy Regulations 1990.
§ Mr. BaldryThe algebra used in the Fossil Fuel Levy Regulations 1990 will enable the Director General of Electricity Supply to calculate the rate of the levy as a percentage of the electricity sales revenue. This percentage will then be notified to licensed suppliers and published. Licensed suppliers will not need to apply these formulae; they will calculate the payments due from them in accordance with the rate notified by the Director. They will therefore be in no doubt as to the rate applicable to any particular month.
