HC Deb 15 March 1990 vol 169 c351W
Mr. Maclennan

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking to ensure that the membership of the board of the new Scottish agricultural college is representative of the different geographical areas within Scotland, including the highlands and islands.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

I refer the hon. Member to the press release issued on behalf of my noble Friend the Minister of State on 8 March which indicates the membership of the board of directors of the Scottish agricultural college, a copy of which has been placed in the Library of the House. In deciding who should be invited to serve as directors, the Secretary of State took careful account of the desirability of representing the different geographical areas within Scotland, including the highlands and islands. He is confident that the new board adequately reflects the balance of backgrounds necessary to take forward the work of the Scottish agricultural college.
