HC Deb 15 March 1990 vol 169 cc375-6W
52. Mr. Robert G. Hughes

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many representations against his privatisation programme have been received from employees of companies already privatised.

Mr. Lilley

I have no way of knowing by whom those who write to the Treasury are employed. But the popularity of the privatisation programme with the employees of privatised industries is amply demonstrated by the large numbers of those employees who apply for shares in their companies on privatisation. Most recently, some 37,500 employees (over 85 per cent. of those eligible) applied for shares in the water offers.
