To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the growth in gross domestic product during the 1980s(a) in the United Kingdom and (b) in other European Community countries.

Mr. Ryder

Between 1980 and 1988 growth averaged 2.7 per cent. a year in the United Kingdom and 2.1 per cent. in other European Community countries.
