To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much money was raised through value added tax on charities in 1989; and what was the comparable figure in real terms 10 years ago.

For the value added tax paid by charities in 1989, I refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave to him on 15 February [Official Report, column 338]. It is estimated that 10 years ago charities paid at today's values between £100 million and £150 million in value added tax.
