HC Deb 12 March 1990 vol 169 c121W
17. Mr. David Evans

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what estimate he has as to the amount of revenue likely to be lost in 1989–90 as a result of vehicle excise evasion.

Mr. Atkins

A roadside survey carried out by the Department in June 1989 estimated the revenue loss through evasion of vehicle excise duty throughout Great Britain in 1989–90 was £103 million, or 3.5 per cent. of revenue due.

Further details can be obtained from the transport statistics report "Vehicle Excise Duty Evasion in Great Britain in 1989.90" which is available in the House of Commons Library.
