To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what current compensation is paid to an egg producer by his Ministry for a spent hen over 72 weeks of age; and what level of compensation was payable at the inception of the Zoonoses Order 1989.

The present rate of compensation paid for a laying bird over 72 weeks of age is 34p. The rate at 1 March 1989, when the Zoonoses Order 1989 came into force, was 18p per bird.
