HC Deb 12 March 1990 vol 169 cc16-7W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many letters he has received from people claiming to know the identity of Meibion Glyndŵr and inquiring about the £50,000 reward offered for such information; and what action has been taken consequent on such correspondence;

(2) whether the policy of offering a £50,000 reward by the North Wales police for information concerning Meibion Glyndŵr was approved by his Department prior to being instigated.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

There is no record of the Home Office having received any letters making such claims. If any were received, they would be passed directly to the police for investigation. The decision whether to offer a reward is an operational matter for the chief officer, which does not require the approval of the Home Office.
