To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many people were refused(a) community care grants, (b) budgeting loans and (c) crisis loans, listed separately, on the grounds that there were insufficient funds/priority too low, by his offices in Redcar, Eston, Middlesbrough, Stockton and Hartlepool, during the period April 1988 to March 1989, and during the period April 1989 to December 1989.

The information given in the table represents the number of processed applications which were refused on grounds of insufficient priority. The number of people refused or awarded payments from the social fund is not collected. Individuals can make more than one application during each accounting period.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what was(a) the spending profile and (b) the actual spend in respect of (i) community care grants and (ii) loans, listed separately, for each of his offices in Redcar, Eston, Middlesbrough, Stockton and Hartlepool, for the period April to December 1989, inclusive.

The information given in the table represents the spending profile set at the start of this financial year for each office specified. The profile is adjusted at the end of each month to take account of actual expenditure and can be adjusted at any time to take account of local circumstances. Information for actual spending is in the Library.
