§ Mrs. PeacockTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what provisions govern the eligibility of student nurses for community charge relief at the student rate; and what proportion of student nurses will pay at the student rate in 1990–91.
§ Mr. ChopeThe eligibility criteria for the student relief are set out in the Personal Community Charge (Students) Regulations 1989 (S.I. 1989/443). They provide that students on undergraduate nursing courses and those undertaking Project 2000 training will be eligible for the student relief. No precise estimate can be made of the numbers involved. However I understand that, by 1 April 1990, Project 2000 schemes will be in operation at 13 of the 86 nursing schools in England. Over the next few years the scheme will be extended to cover all pre-registration nursing trainees receiving their training in schools of nursing.
§ Mr. Austin MitchellTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, further to his written reply dated 14 February,Official Report, column 222, concerning the amount of poll tax payable in 1990–91 per adult for each region, and so on whether he will provide in each case an estimate of the number of adults, excluding ratepayers' spouses, who do not currently pay rates.
