HC Deb 12 March 1990 vol 169 c59W
69. Mr. Barry Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how much is being provided in 1990–91 in the form of overseas aid to assist the countries of eastern Europe.

Mrs. Chalker

In 1990–91 we expect to seek parliamentary approval in main estimates for £13.5 million to cover expenditure on Poland and Hungary under the know-how fund, and on an agricultural project in Poland. This expenditure is additional to the official United Kingdom aid programme. Supplementary estimate provision for 1990–91 and later years may be sought when the public expenditure implications of other commitments, such as the establishment of know-how funds for other countries in eastern Europe, are clearer.
