To ask the Secretary of State for Wales whether he intends to issue a statement of policy to guide the proposed Countryside Council for Wales in the exercise of its powers from 1 April 1991.

I have placed copies of the draft statement of policy in the Libraries of both Houses and copies have also been placed in the Vote Office.

It is customary for such statements to be determined following discussions between the sponsor Department and the board of the organisation concerned, taking due account of any comments that may be received from other interested organisations. The draft statement will accordingly form the basis of discussions with the new Countryside Council for Wales when the relevant appointments are made.
